Illustrated Bible story
Noah's Ark

It is one of the most beloved stories in the whole Bible: a just man, an enormous ark, animals from all the earth, and a promise sealed with a rainbow.
The story
In Noah's time, the world had filled with violence and evil. But Noah walked with God. God asked him something that seemed like madness: to build a giant wooden ark, far from any sea, and to fill it with his family and pairs of every animal.
Noah trusted and obeyed. When the flood came, the ark protected everything God wanted to save. For months, that floating home was a refuge in the middle of the waters.
When the waters went down, Noah and his family stepped into a new world. God set a rainbow in the sky as the sign of his covenant: a promise of mercy for all creation.
What it teaches
Catholics see in this story God's faithfulness and the courage of trusting him even when his plan is hard to understand. Christians have also seen the ark as a symbol of the Church: a place of safety in the storms of life, leading us to new life in God's promises.
